It's Christmas week. Not that I needed to tell you so. Even if you're organized, you probably still have a few last minute gifts to buy. There's always someone who didn't make your Christmas list, but should have.
On December 1, my to-give list is always shorter than it is on December 24. I don't know if it's the spirit of generosity in the air, or just that I've given up on trying to stay within a budget, but I always end up needing a few more gifts than I initially anticipated.
Last year I read an article somewhere that made me add one more item to my giving list. I feel silly that I didn't think of it myself. After all, we're celebrating His birthday—it's what Christmas is all about. Of course, I'm referring to giving something to God for Christmas.
Last year, I felt He wanted me to trust Him more. He certainly gave me opportunity after opportunity to trust Him more in 2008.
This year I've asked Him again: what can I give You, Lord? How can I best honor You this Christmas season? What would You like to see more, or less, of in my life?
He is always faithful to answer when I ask Him these types of questions. He wants to shape and mold me into a vessel that can best be used for Him. We would all be wise to ask Him what He would like to see changed in our lives. He is good and faithful.
May I encourage You to add Him to Your gift-giving list this year? Spend a few moments right now asking Him what You can give Him for Christmas this year. You might be surprised by what He tells you.
God,
Thank You for the wonderful gift of Jesus, who came to earth and died so that I might live (Galations 2:20). Please reveal what You'd like me to give You for Christmas. Give me a quiet heart to hear You, and a willing attitude to respond according to Your will.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen
