I recently took a personality-type test that showed I tend to take a long time to make a decision. For anyone who knows me, a test wasn't necessary because this characteristic (character flaw?) can be easily recognized.
For instance, I wasn't sure about marrying my husband until I actually said the words, "I do." Anyone who was at our wedding remembers that I actually took a while to say the words during the ceremony. (Turns out, he was the best decision I ever made.) I took forever to decide to lose weight because I felt convinced it was not a financially smart thing to do (new clothes would be necessary, after all). I have spent the last six weeks trying to decide whether or not to purchase a certain piece of furniture. I spent years deciding if I should pursue writing as more than a little hobby. In case you've wondered, I've decided to pursue it but haven't decided to spend the necessary time needed to actually write.
I can be paralyzed by decisions. I am cautious by nature. My motto has always been that 'a fool and her money are soon parted.' I'm realizing that my new motto should be 'a fool and her time are soon parted.'
I've officially been out of the full-time working world for six weeks. And I have very little to show for it. Oh, I have excuses like working 30 hours to 15 hours a week to help my previous boss transition to her new business. I've another excuse - we've had a death in our family. But nothing has taken up enough time to account for all the tasks I've still not accomplished.
Indecision keeps me from getting things done. What holds you back?
If you are a child of God (gathered chick), then you've been given jobs to do. Some of my jobs aren't being done as well as they should/could be because of the time I spend on research.
Let's ask God to help us make the most of our time and not allow perfectionism, or fear, or indecisiveness to keep us from accomplishing our jobs for Him.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for helping us in our weakness (Romans 8:26). Please help us to let go of whatever keeps us from accomplishing the jobs You've given us. Remind us to pray about everything (I Thessalonians 5:17) and to make the best decision we can in the time we have, knowing that You give wisdom generously (James 1:5) when we ask for it. Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12), for Your glory and our good.
In Jesus' name,
Amen
