Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
and he will make your paths straight.
This Scripture passage has meant a great deal to me in the last few weeks. I've been facing what has appeared to be an impossible situation and have spent quite a bit of time talking to God about it. In answer to my prayers I frequently find the words of this verse flitting through my soul.
I wonder if Mary, the mother of Jesus, had the same experience. After all, her situation surely seemed impossible - pregnant... never having been with a man... seeing an angel... believing in the promise of God. Did these verses from the book of Proverbs come to comfort her soul as well?
I'm sure she was afraid but Scripture tells us she chose to trust. We find evidence of this trust in her beautiful song of praise known as The Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55).
Even when our own understanding causes us to believe circumstances are bleak, we can choose to trust in the Lord with all our hearts knowing that He has promised to make our paths straight. Just as He did with Mary.
Heavenly Father,
My Spirit rejoices in God my Savior - just as Mary's did so long ago. Thank You for Your promises of hope, love and truth. No matter what my understanding of a situation may be, please remind me to choose to trust and sing a song of praise during this busy Christmas season.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen
